In order to keep you informed about the development in the political and security situation in Tunisia, I am pleased to send you the following information:
1) Establishment of an interim government of national unity:
After extensive and intensive consultations carried out between all national political parties and the various components of civil society, a consensus has led to the formation of a Provisional Government of National Unity, whose mission is to enable the country to achieve democratic transition and the necessary conditions for the next election.
The new Minister of Trade and Tourism is Mr. Mehdi Houas young boss of a company based in France.
Mr. Slim Chaker, Secretary of State for Tourism, is kept at his post.
2) Improving the security situation:
Under the easing of the state of emergency and in order to improve the security situation in the country, it was decided to reduce the duration of the curfew now set from 00:00 to 04:00 and this is expected to be completely lifted this week.
3) Tourism trends
Despite the almost total shutdown of tourism since the start of the revolution, tourism professionals have decided to keep their staff and continue to pay their salaries until the resumption of the activity.
The Association of French tour operators (CETO) have decided to suspend departures to Tunisia until February 7, 2011. For the February vacation, the French tour operators continue to make reservations.
Various other countries have cancelled any ban on travel to Tunisia, example : http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/middle-east-north-africa/tunisia
All tourist facilities are fully operational and excursions are being operated smoothly.
We can consider that the unrest situation is over and we are happy to see life going back to normal for the Tunisian people and we are ready to welcome visitors in good conditions.
